Thirteen Students Selected for Governor's Honors Program
Congratulations to the thirteen students who earned coveted spots to attend the Governor’s Honors Program (GHP) this summer. The students were selected after a rigorous application and interview process. Students selected from Alexander High School include Colby Davis, Music, and Christin Timmons, Science. Desiree Barnett from Chapel Hill High School was selected for Visual Arts. Students attending from Douglas County High School include Aldo Barriente, Communicative Arts, Devon Boatright, Mathematics, John Buterbaugh, Social Studies, Madalin How, Social Studies, Xufei Liu, Mathematics, Sierra McIntosh, Dance, Christina Pittman, Spanish, and Patrick Spoor, Mathematics. Students from New Manchester High School include Destiny Felder, Dance, and Tyler Lewis, Music. GHP is a four week residential summer program for gifted and talented high school students who will be rising juniors and seniors. The program offers instruction that is significantly different from typical high school classrooms and is designed to provide students with academic, cultural, and social enrichment necessary to become the next generation of global critical thinkers, innovators, and leaders. The program is housed at Berry College in Rome, GA, and the state of Georgia covers the cost of the program for all participants. For many students, the experience at GHP is uniquely positive and often life changing. |
