Michele Butts received a B.A. in Early Childhood Education from Mercer University and a Master of Education degree in Brain Based Education from Nova University. She is currently teaching fifth grade Math and Science at South Douglas Elementary School. Ms. Butts has also completed requirements earning her the Gifted In-Field, K-5 Math, and Reading Endorsements. A Douglas County educator for fifteen years and strong advocate of hands-on, inquiry-based learning, she involves her students in a variety of problem-solving and technology infused activities that provide opportunities to increase conceptual comprehension and foster curiosity. Her professional interests focus on strengthening positive attitudes towards math and science, including the organization of a Science and Engineering Club for third through fifth grade students and school wide Family S.T.E.A.M. night. Ms. Butts also serves as a Learning Focused Schools Trainer, sponsor of Good News and 4-H Clubs, and co-sponsor of Math Marvels and the South Douglas Fifth Grade Math Competition Team. In addition, she is a member of the Georgia Science Teachers Association and serves on the Douglas County Elementary Science Instructional Resource Adoption Committee. She was recently honored with the Whale Done Staff Award for her contributions and support of students and faculty at South Douglas Elementary.
